About Rancho Cordova

provided by the City of Rancho Cordova website
On July 1, 2003, after more than 20 years of advocacy, the City of Rancho Cordova officially incorporated, becoming the 478th city in the State of California. Located in the eastern part of Sacramento County, Rancho Cordova is a community with a rich history including the first 12 miles of railroad in California, a thriving military base in its time, and the home of a nearly 3,000 businesses.
The community chose to incorporate in order to retain and improve its identity and quality of life, to increase representation and accessibility of local government, to provide greater control over local land use, planning, and regulatory matters, and to provide an increased level of service to Rancho Cordova residents. The voters of the community showed overwhelming support for the incorporation ballot measure on November 5, 2002, voting 77.6 percent in approval of incorporation.
City Government
The City of Rancho Cordova has a Council-manager form of government with five members elected to the Council, one of whom serves as mayor for a year. The Mayor's post is that of "chief among equals for a time." Each Council Member serves the City at large, not representing any designated area or ward.

Rancho Cordova Economic Index Report & Confidence Survey

Program Overview

The Rancho Cordova Economic Index focuses specifically on the performance of the local economy, giving business leaders objective measures of where the economy has been, quarter-to-quarter and year-to-year.The index is measured using data from five main topics, all equally weighted and seasonally adjusted, using 2007 as the base year. The report measures Sales Tax, Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), total dollar value of Building Permits issued, Employment, and average Housing sales prices. These components are used in the index because they provide a timely and accurate snapshot of how the community is doing economically. Each of the components has an independent, in-depth report developed on a quarterly basis.
